Barcelona Wednesday: Montjuic

We got to sleep in today, which was much needed before our "hike" on Montjuic!  It is this huge mountain that looms over Barcelona, and provides some of the greatest views of the city.  It also houses a great deal of museums, gardens, a castle, and the olympic stadium, to name only a few things.

We decided however, to take the teleferic, or cable car, up to the top, and then meander our way down, gathering up sights as we went.  It was well worth the price of admission.  We got to see the entire city in 360 degrees.  PLUS we did not have to walk all the way to the top and then all the way back down again.  Definitely smart for our tired little feet.

At the very top is a castle, which once again provides really neat views.  The castle itself is also pretty cool, and certainly on my list of places I would not mind living haha.

Apparently back then, they were very short.

Very short indeed.

Or...Mom height...haha :)

Next, we headed down in the cable car again to the sculpture garden, and then the Olympic village.  Barcelona hosted the Olympics in 1992 and the place looks amazing.  You can just imagine it filled with people, all jammed together, trying to see their favorite athletes preform.  I have to say, it was very impressive.  Mom did not want to go see it because it was too new, but we all agreed it was worth the walk.
Famous athletes footprints, on the walk of fame.

Dad and I, thrilled that we dragged Mom to the Olympic Stadium

Finally we meandered down to the Palace national art museum (something like that), which though we did not enter, was a work of art from the outside.  It is a huge palace, that looks like it would take years to wander all the way through, and the front has these magnificent fountains.  Unfortunately, the fountains only run at certain times, very disappointing.

After that we headed out souvenir shopping, and had delicious falafels from a tiny vegetarian chain food store.  A great ending, to a great day!
