Guest Blog: by Deb/Mom: Barcelona 2010

The very act of titling this blog with a year date suggests that there will be other journeys in other years….and I hope it is so!  Obviously we had a great time on our Spring Break and Sam has covered much of it in her blog.  As she is off in Rome for Easter weekend, I figured that I would cover the more mundane yet vital part of the trip….The Apartment.

#6 Argenteria:  A three bedroom, second floor apartment sitting right over the street in a great neighborhood in Barcelona.  There are several distinct areas of the city.  We were right on the edge between the Born and the Barri-Gotic. It reminded us of sections of Greenwich Village in Manhattan.

Our block.

Our balcony.

View from the balcony.

The apartment had all the necessities, stove, washing machine (which we were too daunted by to use!), fridge, etc.  While we did not cook very much there, we ate breakfast every day and sometimes would bring home fun stuff to eat.  This way we could sit back, take our shoes off and put our feet up while listening to the hustle and bustle of our street.

Our kitchen.

Sam researching our next expedition!

Our across the street neighbors.

The nightlife goes on quite late in that area, but because the apartment was outfitted with very sturdy new windows and sound/light dampening curtains, we all slept pretty well considering that our bodies had NO idea what time of day it was!

Having the apartment gave us a real home base in a very old section of town.  It made us feel as though we belonged immediately.  It became very matter of fact to discuss where we were in relation to our apartment and our cathedral - you know, the one around the corner! (Santa Maria Del Mar):

Special thanks to Marie for setting us up there.  It was a wonderful and absolutely invaluable part of our 2010 trip to Barcelona.  Who knows where we will end up next?

I’d also like to make a quick comment on our personal tour guide.  Samantha has become a veteran traveler who is an expert at figuring out how to maneuver a brand new city. While we did feel comfortable enough to get around by ourselves by the end, her research and ability to interpret (both the language and the maps) made this an incredibly enjoyable trip (and, may I say, not a moment was wasted!!)
